As of now, at least 127 people have reported getting sick from pig ears. Wait, what? Apparently, what is happening, is people are giving their dogs these treats, and then not properly washing areas that came in contact with said treats.

No single supplier, distributor or common brand of pig ear treats has been identified that could account for all the illnesses. Do not buy or feed any pig ear dog treats to pets. - CDC and FDA.

There have been reports filed in 33 states already, including one in Minnesota, 23 in Iowa, and four in Wisconsin.

The CDC says people with a Salmonella infection may have diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Most people recover without treatment. But, you should contact your doctor to be safe if you think you are infected.

As for dogs, they may not look sick, but will typically have diarrhea, seem more tired,  and may vomit or have a fever. If you see these signs, you're urged to contact your veterinarian as a precaution.
