Tattoo Artist Refused to Give I Prevail’s Dylan Bowman Another ‘Mega Man’ Tattoo
'The Needle and the Damage' done is a tattoo series produced by Loudwire and presented by the Inkcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival. Each episode was shot on site at the festival's location in Mansfield, Ohio, at the Ohio State Reformatory, which is also where scenes from the 'Shawshank Redemption' were filmed. Here, artists reflect on the artwork scrawled into their flesh, recollecting their first tattoos, the most painful ones, deeper meanings and, of course, the stories behind them all. Enjoy while you anxiously await the announcement of next year's lineup. Keep an eye out because tickets go on sale in December!
I Prevail guitarist Dylan Bowman loves Mega Man. A lot. So much so, that one tattoo artist wouldn't add another one to his body, but you'll learn more about that later.
The first tattoo he ever got was one of the monochromatic Capcom video game robot hero on his left forearm. He followed it up on his upper right arm with two more depictions of the character that make up the top of what will be an eventual sleeve dedicated entirely to video games.
What's strikingly funny is that Bowman's left arm depicts a giant squid and a black koi fish, but he's terrified of the ocean. "It's one of my biggest fears — it's just scary," he said. "We don't know what's down there." His bandmate, Eric Vanlerberghe, has a tattoo of Spider-Man but he hates spiders. No wonder they're in a band together.
Of a piece on his chest he says, "It's probably the dumbest tattoo I have because I've never even played hockey — I can't even skate!" Rest easy, he's at least a fan of the sport, but he joked, "I'll probably get it lasered off eventually" after explaining his tattoo artist refused to give him another Mega Man piece.
There's a compass on his left arm that could benefit from the laser too since his artist messed it up and put "SW" (southwest) on it twice. But are you sure you really want it lasered off, Dylan? Godsmack's Sully Erna described the process as, "Imagine the world's largest elastic band slapping the most sensitive parts of your skin at 1,000 beats a second."
