Willmar, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Willmar police officer was stabbed multiple times and the man who stabbed him died in a confrontation early Friday morning.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Willmar Police responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a residence around 5:40 a.m. and encountered the man inside the home. That was followed by an altercation that left one officer with multiple stab wounds. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Willmar and was then airlifted to a St. Cloud hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. A statement from the BCA indicates he is expected to survive.

A woman in the home was also injured by the man and was treated at the Willmar Hospital.

The BCA says one of the officers involved in the altercation discharged a Taser and investigators are working to determine if any of the officers fired their guns. At this point, it's unknown whether the man was shocked by the Taser or hit by gunfire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of his death. His name and the name of the wounded officer have not been released.
