St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The daily coronavirus testing totals had been rising in Minnesota all week, until yesterday.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported the results from just under 4200 COVID-19 tests conducted on Friday. The test total was down 375 from Thursday, but it was still the state's second-highest one-day testing total and pushed the total number of tests performed for the new illness since the start of the pandemic to over 79,000.

The drop in the number of tests correlated with a drop in the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Minnesota. The total for Friday was 498, which was down nearly 100 when compared to Thursday's total. Over 6,200 Minnesotans have now tested positive for COVID-19.

Minnesota experienced 24 additional coronavirus deaths on Friday, which raised the overall death toll from the new illness to 395. 21 of the most recent deaths involved residents of long-term care centers.

The State Health Department also reported that, as of Friday, 389 people were hospitalized because of coronavirus and 135 were being treated in intensive care.
