La Crosse, WI (KROC AM News) - Parts of SE Minnesota may be facing minor flooding problems Wednesday night or Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the area could receive 1 - 2 inches of rain between late Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The NWS says the rain will fall on soil that is still moist as a result of recent rain, snowmelt, and cool weather. The agency says the new rain “will likely saturate the soils once again, resulting in more runoff into area streams and Rivers.” Many rivers and streams remain higher than normal from recent runoff and flooding, with the Mississippi River still above flood stage at some locations. The runoff may also produce renewed rises along the Mississippi River late this week into the weekend.

Those living near rivers and streams should closely monitor river levels Wednesday into this weekend and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.
