Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester State Senator Dave Senjem was in Rochester and other area cities Tuesday to hear requests for state funding as he puts together a bonding bill.

At the top of his personal list is a proposal to provide state funds to deal with Minnesotans suffering from mental illness.

Olmsted and other counties have been working with Senjem on plans to develop housing and crisis or triage centers for individuals suffering from mental illness. Senjem plans to seek $100-million to develop six housing projects and three triage centers. He will also seek funds to help counties run the facilities.

Senjem says this has really hit home because his parents dealt with mental illness.

As chair of the Senate committee that oversees bonding requests, Senjem will decide which proposals are included in the package that will be considered during the 2018 session.

Other local proposals Senjem has received are funding requests for a major makeover of Graham Park, the Chesterwoods trail, Cascade Lake improvements and a planned sewer project for Oronoco.
