Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police are looking into an incident involving Regina Mustafa, who last week announced plans to run for mayor this year.

She reported to police Monday a comment was made on her Google Plus account that read “EXECUTE all muslims in America" in response to a post she made last June.

Mustafa told police it was made by an individual self-identified as "Militia Movement."  Mustafa, who is a Muslim, also reported a threat last summer while considering a run for Congress.

Police Capt John Sherwin says investigators are checking to see if this would classify as a bias crime. He says it does not appear to be a direct threat but more of a general comment so it’s not clear if any laws were broken.

The incident drew this response from Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations:

"We urge state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate this implicit threat of violence targeting a member of a minority community seeking to take part in our nation's political process."

Hussein says Mustafa believes the threatening comment was prompted by news of her mayoral candidacy.
