Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester school student who punched a police officer ended up being tased and taken to jail.

The incident happened Monday morning at the school district’s Phoenix Academy.

Police Capt. John Sherwin says the 17-year-old student initially got into a confrontation with the school’s principal and pushed him. He then tried leaving and the school’s liaison officer stopped him. That’s when the student punched the officer in the face and knocked off his glasses. The officer's radio also fell so he was not able to call for backup. They began struggling and the officer ended up using his Taser on the student, who is now facing assault and other charges.

Sherwin says the principal reported the student had been having some behavioral issues that were reported to his probation officer.
