Rochester Police Seize Thousands of Oxycodone Pills During Speeding Stop
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A drug-related arrest in Rochester Monday night may help police in their ongoing investigation into a recent spike in overdoses, including at least two that were fatal.
Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says two men were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of 6,000 Oxycodone pills.
They were found in the back seat of the car that was driven by 25-year-old Dahir Dahir. He was pulled over for speeding and the car was searched after the officer smelled marijuana.
A passenger - 25-year-old Abdullai Islaw of Rochester - was also arrested. Both men are expected to be arraigned Wednesday on drug charges.
Moilanen says the pills have an estimated street value of $90,000 - $180,000.
He says they are similar to the pills that were linked to the recent overdoses. Those pills were a mix of Oxycodone and the powerful opioid Fentanyl. It’s also believed they are similar to the pills involved in overdoses being reported in other cities.
Moilanen says investigators suspect the pills are coming from Mexico.
