Rochester Public Schools Construction Update: Groundbreaking Time

The Rochester Public Schools have announced the date for their construction projects' groundbreaking ceremony coming up later in August.

A quick reminder, RPS's over $180 million referendums passed in 2019 called for...

• Building an elementary school on existing land in NW Rochester
• Reconstructing Bishop and Longfellow Elementary Schools
• Building a middle school
• Purchasing land for additional growth
• Upgrading safety and security at all schools
• Upgrading all high school auditoriums
• Closing middle school pools, updating the dive well at Mayo, and a new pool at Century.

Heather Nessler, Executive Director Communications, Marketing, Technology for the Rochester Public Schools said the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Northwest Rochester elementary school is August 27th at 11 AM at 622 24th Avenue NW. , "This project commemorates the first of four school construction projects as a result of the November 2019 referendum..."

Call In Show w/Tough Questions for Rochester Public Schools Boss

On Friday, August 13, 2020, Superintendent Michael Munoz joined KROC NEWS on the air for a conversation about the new year and a lot of people called in with questions. Not all callers were happy with the decisions that have been made. Others were sent in via text, Facebook, etc to preserve anonymity.

Topics include why they're starting grade school in school and not a hybrid model, why are golf outings allowed but not in person classes for students, and many more.
