Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A reported gun-related confrontation outside a northwest Rochester apartment complex Tuesday led to the arrest of a man several hours later.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says a 42-year-old woman and her 24-year-old son were in a car in the parking lot of Gage East Apartments around 4:30 PM. Another vehicle stopped near them and the male driver asked the woman what she was looking at. Moilanen says the woman’s son went to the man’s car and confronted him. The man began driving away and then pointed a gun at the woman's son.

Several witnesses confirmed the woman’s story and officers were able to identify the man with the gun. Moilanen says for some reason, the man later contacted an Olmsted County deputy and confirmed he had been in a confrontation but denied he had a gun.

Officers located the man in his car around 2:00 AM Wednesday and found a gun in his vehicle. Arrested on a felony assault charge was 27-year-old Derrick Mays.
