Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - New records were set last month in the Rochester area for the number of jobs and the number of people in the workforce.

The latest jobs data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development indicates total employment in Olmsted County reached an all-time high of 83,887 in June, while the size of the labor force hit a record high 86,489 last month.

Meanwhile, seasonal factors helped push the unemployment rate for the Rochester area slightly higher last month. The state statistics put the jobless rate for Olmsted County in June at 3 percent. That’s up two-tenths of point from May, while it is a tenth of a point below the local unemployment rate from June of last year.

Olmsted County’s jobless rate remained the lowest in southeastern Minnesota, where every county experienced increases from made due to the influx of college graduates and summer job-seekers. The highest rate and the largest increase were both found in Winona County, where the unemployment rate rose six-tenths of a point from May to 3.8 percent.
