Rochester City Council to Discuss Wojcik Ethics Report

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -There may be some heated discussion at Monday’s meeting of the Rochester City Council. Then again, maybe not.

City Council President Randy Staver has confirmed he plans to bring up the report from the city’s Ethical Practices Board dealing with 2nd ward representative Michael Wojcik.

The board found Wojcik violated the code of ethics when he tried to force the CEO of the Greater Rochester Arts and Cultural Trust to give him a copy of a report before it was released publicly.

Wojcik argued he had a right to see the report because city funds helped pay for it. But City Attorney Terry Adkins said that wasn’t the case because there was no contract between the trust and city. The council could decide to censure or publicly reprimand Wojcik or do nothing.

The council may also vote on the employment contract for the new city administrator. Last week the council picked Steve Rymer over two other finalists for the job left open when longtime administrator Steve Kvenvold retired in May. Rymer is a Minnesota native who is the current City Manager for Morgan Hill, California. It’s expected he will begin his Rochester job in October.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
