Rochester Wrongful Death Lawsuit Settled for $2,000,000
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A wrongful death lawsuit involving a fatal Olmsted County traffic wreck near the Rochester airport has been settled.
The lawsuit was filed against Fernbrook Family Center and Nicole Vanderhoof.
The Rochester woman was driving near the city airport last year when she ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. Vanderhoof and a 4-year-old girl in her vehicle were treated for non-life threatening injuries. But the other driver - 70-year-old Larry Meyers of Hayfield - was seriously hurt and never recovered. He died in a nursing home eight months later.
The lawsuit was settled for $2.15-million.
A third goes to the victim’s family members, another third goes to the Suk law firm and the remainder will be used to reimburse Medicare and cover other medical expenses.
Vanderhoof was employed by Fernbrook at the time of the wreck and the girl she was transporting was a client of the company. Vanderhoof pleaded guilty to careless driving and was placed on probation for one year.
Court documents show Meyers’ medical bills were over $2-million with half claimed by Mayo Clinic. The records indicate most of the medical care expenses were not paid.
