Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Organizers of Rochester’s Polar Plunge are encouraging would-be participants to consider registering as soon as possible.

As of Sunday morning, more than 750 people had already registered and their pledges total $87,000.

The Rochester Plunge will be held at Foster Arend Park, 4109 E River Road NE. The Plunge begins at 1:30 p.m. on February 11, 2017. Day of the Plunge check-in will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Plunge site.

In 2016, more than 935 brave souls took the Plunge in Rochester and raised approximately $245,000 in support of Special Olympics Minnesota.

The funds benefit more than 8,200 SOMN athletes as they train, compete and transform themselves, their communities and the world.

The two-day Rochester Plunge festivities kick-off with the Cool School Plunge at noon on Friday, February 10.

This is a new event designed specifically for students, staff and families of schools to participate in the Polar Plunge.

While receiving a fun and educational experience about Special Olympics Minnesota, the Cool School Plunge aims to teach youth from a young age about inclusion. Students will participate in the Polar Plunge and also interact firsthand with SOMN and learn more about ways they can get involved with SOMN programs. Students are encouraged to challenge others within their school as well as neighboring schools. Teams who take the Cool School Plunge are eligible to take part in the Give Back, Get Unified Fundraiser to benefit their school. To be eligible for participation, each participant must raise a minimum of $75.
