Papa Roach Discuss ‘Crooked Teeth’ Meaning + Success of ‘Help’ Single
When asked about why Crooked Teeth became the title, singer Jacoby Shaddix pointed to the title cut on the album as a real turning point that felt like it "encapsulated all the spaces and elements that we were about to venture throughout the record." He added, "The title itself, Crooked Teeth, represents real, raw, vulnerable, unashamed, embrace your flaws, embrace your brokenness."
Shaddix also stated that he felt this album had a bit of full circle nature to it, especially with his return to rapping. "It just felt like I wanted to scream and shout about it," says Shaddix. "I just had to get loud and get in your face and that spitfire flow was just the way to do it."
The band's hot start is due in part to their chart-topping single "Help," but the success has been somewhat of a surprise for the guys. "We didn't like it at first, but now it's one of our favorites," reveals bassist Tobin Esperance. "It was a pleasant surprise for all of us," Shaddix adds, stating that the song has become an anthem in concert much in the way that "Last Resort" has been over the years.
