Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - It’s still not known what caused the unexpected death of a college student from Rochester, but state health officials issued a statement Wednesday evening indicating there is no risk to the general public or those who had close contact with Adam Ellingson.

The 20-year-old man was in the second semester of his second year at Minnesota State-Mankato when he fell ill last weekend and died early Tuesday.

The Minnesota Department of Health got involved because of the possibility the young man’s death was from contagious forms of meningitis or another disease that poses a public health risk. A spokesman says once a determination is made that the public health is not at risk, the department’s involvement in the case usually comes to an end.

Funeral arrangements for Ellingson, who was a 2015 graduate of Lourdes High School, are pending.
