Mayo Donates $500,000 to Irma Relief Efforts
Jacksonville, FL (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic announced Monday it has donated $500,000 to help cover the cost of emergency relief efforts associated with Hurricane Irma in northeast Florida and elsewhere in the state.
Half the money has been given to the Florida First Coast Relief Fund covering relief efforts in Jacksonville, where Mayo has a large presence. The other $250,000 has been donated to the American Red Cross. Mayo remains in close contact with relief agencies to determine whether additional equipment, supplies, personnel or funds may be necessary.
“We are saddened by the devastation and loss suffered by many people across Florida as a result of Hurricane Irma,” says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., vice president, Mayo Clinic, and CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida. “We feel immense concern and commitment to helping address needs, especially in Northeast Florida, which is home to many members of our Mayo Clinic family.”
