(The picture above isn't a picture from Monday’s Rochester City Council meeting)

According to KROC NEWS, a last minute motion was made that could lead to pay raises for the Council and Mayor. It was the topic in the first part of the Rochester Today with Andy Brownell and James Rabe an KROC AM 1340 and 96-9 FM.

Andy and I both feel the council and mayor could do with a pay raise. Why, though, was it a last minute motion? Listen especially for an upset caller who did NOT mince words. Tap play in the player above to listen.

Here are some of the basics from our reporting on the story...

The Council voted 6-1, with 5th Ward Councilmember Shaun Palmer in the minority, to approve a resolution put forward by 2nd Ward Councilmember Michael Wojcik that was not part of the published agenda. It calls for city staff to analyze the budgetary and other impacts of adopting a pay scale for members of the City Council and Rochester Mayor based on the median household income in Olmsted County.  (Read entire story HERE)

The pay increases could be quite large. Again from KROC NEWS

That would boost the salaries for the councilmembers from just under $22,000 to almost $58,000, while the pay for Rochester Mayor would rise from a bit over $37,500 to over $86,500 per year.
