Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - Thursday is going to be a big day for Red Wing.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says there will be a “ special ceremony to mark the symbolic first traffic on the new Hwy 63 Eisenhower Bridge of Valor.”

MnDOT says there will be a ribbon-cutting event in Red Wing following a small ceremonial procession of veterans and emergency responders from Minnesota and Wisconsin. The procession is scheduled to begin on the Wisconsin side of the bridge around 2:00 PM.

Traffic will begin on the new bridge on Friday in stages during the day.

Work on the $63.4-million project began in 2017 and is scheduled to be completed next year. Traffic will be allowed to use the bridge as the work continues.

MnDOT says demolition of the older structure is scheduled to begin Monday.
