The Ring sequel no one was asking for is about to hit theaters, and if watching a movie about people dying because they watched a movie appeals to you, you probably want to check out the full first scene Paramount released today. It features a doomed plane, some doomed people, and a girl crawling out of a — well, you know the rest.

The real challenge of Rings is how they’re planning to make this scary now that we’ve entered the digital age. The horror of The Ring was more personal: a person gave you a videotape and it was your choice to watch it or not, but if you did you sealed your fate unless you copied it and sent it on to someone else. With mass e-mails, texts, AirDrop and what have you, video sharing has become way easier, as has forcing someone to accidentally watch the video. But making copies has also become easier, so the terror of waiting for someone to watch the VHS you gave them is nonexistent.

They’re going to have to add more to the story, and according to the synopsis, they have:

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise.  A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.  She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

Rings stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden and Vincent D’Onofrio, and hits theaters on February 3.
