Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - One man was killed and two others were injured Sunday while working on a tree near Austin.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik says 63-year-old Earl Klankowski of rural Caledonia and 77-year-old Patrick O’Connor of rural Dexter were about 35 feet in the air when the forklift they were using tipped over.

Sandvik says extensive lifesaving efforts on Klankowski were unsuccessful and he died at the scene. O’Connor was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital but a spokeswoman says he was not listed as a patient Monday morning.

Sandvik says 38-year-old Benjamin Klankowski was operating the forklift and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

He says the non-commercial accident happened around 12:30 PM on private property and remains under investigation.
