Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester firefighters responded to a cooking fire at an apartment complex Friday night.

The Rochester Fire Department said crews arrived at The Villages at Essex Park apartments in the 1100 block of 41st Street NW just before 9:00 p.m. to a sprinkler head that had been activated to keep a cooking fire on a stove contained.

Crews quickly moved to the apartment where the fire was and extinguished it. Firefighters then assisted in ventilating the apartment building to ensure all of the smoke was removed, and shut down the sprinkler system. Other residents of the complex were able to re-occupy their homes shortly after.

RFD said nobody was injured and the amount of damage is still being estimated.

The fire remains under investigation.
