Dover, MN (KROC AM News) – A Harmony man apparently spent several hours wrapped up in a blanket along a rural Olmsted County road after crashing his vehicle Sunday night.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kirby Long says a passing motorist spotted the man around 6:30 AM Monday. Paramedics arrived to find the man semi-conscious and it was later determined he had a partially torn aorta, possibly caused by the accident.

The man was identified as 26-year-old Dalton Volkman.

Long says Volkman told deputies he had dozed off while driving in the 500 block of County Road 10 NE near Dover around midnight. His pickup truck left the road and ended up in the middle fork of the Whitewater River, about a mile north of County Rd 9. Long says Volkman grabbed a blanket from his truck and crawled to the side of the road, hoping to wave down a passerby.

Temperatures had fallen into the upper 30s by the time he was found.

Long says deputies suspected he was under the influence of alcohol or some other substance and a blood sample was taken.
