Championship-Level Disc Golf Course to Open at Gamehaven Park This Friday

The Rochester Parks & Recreation Department made the announcement via a news release Tuesday that the Driftless Disc course at Gamehaven Park will be open to the public for play starting on Friday, October 8th. The course includes an 18-hole championship-caliber course and a 9-hole recreational course.

According to the news release from the Rochester Parks & Recreation Department, the request for the opening of the course has been strong throughout construction and the course is now at a point where it is safe to play while the remaining work on the project is completed.

“In 2014 the Master Plan for Gamehaven Park included the concept of a championship-caliber disc course. Today we are delivering on that commitment and expanding upon that original vision with the opening of the Driftless Disc," Mike Nigbur, Parks & Forestry Division Head said. "The 18-hole championship-caliber course and the recreational 9-hole course have surpassed my expectations by including some of the best views of the park and creating connections with the natural environment. I think there will be great appreciation for the prairie, woods, water, and our unique geology as park users make their way through the course.”

There is some remaining work including the installation of disc course signage, playground safety improvements, and clean-up from the larger park construction project.

Gamehaven Park was developed with major funding from the Greater MN Parks and Trails Commission Legacy Funding and the residents of Rochester. Additional financial support is being provided by Rochester Active Sports Club.

How To Access Gamehaven Park

Park access includes two parking lots: one directly off from 45th Street SE and the new access drive to the parking lots from 50th Street SE near the Olmsted County Regional Safety Training Facility.

Parking lot access for the new disc course area along with the new playground, sledding hill, and parking areas will be from 50th Street SE once that roadway project is completed in mid-November. Until then community members and visitors may use the current access to Gamehaven Park on 45th Street SE to access the 18 hole course starting on Hole #3
