Albert Lea Business Owner Convicted of COVID Violations

Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - The owner of an Albert Lea wine bar and restaurant has been convicted of criminal charges for violating executive orders issued by Governor Tim Walz while his pandemic emergency powers were in effect.

A jury in Freeborn County found 57-year-old Lisa Hanson guilty of multiple misdemeanor charges for repeated violations of the Governor’s order prohibiting bars and restaurants from serving customers “on-premises” during the COVID-19 surge last fall. She attracted considerable media attention by keeping The Interchange Wine Bar and Coffee Bistro open in defiance of the governor and speaking at numerous demonstrations organized to protest the restrictions ordered by Walz in an effort to slow the spread of the new virus.

Following her conviction, the judge in the case sentenced Hanson to 90 days in jail. She was also fined $1,000.
