2016 Was Busy Year for Rochester Builders
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – For the first time in nine years, Rochester homebuilders took out more than 400 permits for new single family homes during 2016.
The total was 418, one more than the 2007 figure. The 2016 figure was helped by December’s 37 permits, one of the highest monthly totals of the year.
Two permits for two large multi-family projects were taken out in December.
One was for another building that is part of the Maine Heights Apartments complex near the Fleet Farm store. This latest one is for a building that will contain 82 units valued at $11.8 million. The other permit is for the Uptown Apartments building located along the west frontage road of Highway 52, a block south of 2nd St SW. It consists of 29 units and is valued at $3.8 million.
Last year was another big year for developers of apartment buildings. The total of multi-family units approved during 2016 was 981. That compares to 1,150 in 2015, which was a record for the city. The overall valuation of all new building permits that were taken out in 2016 was $443-million.
