Yes, this is one of those 'Only In Wisconsin'-type stories.

And I say that as a proud Wisconsinite. Okay, maybe I'm not quite that proud of this story, though. It's the story of a base jumper who thought it'd be a good idea to climb up a cell phone tower and then jump off.

I guess if you're a thrill-seeker, that might sound like a good idea. Except for the fact that, well, it's illegal. And more than a little dangerous, I'm guessing. Because even though this guy (a fella by the name of Mason Barth, who said he's actually from Minnesota) didn't get hurt, he did end up getting stuck in the guy-wires that keep the cell tower standing.

And here's the best part: He had to call 911 himself for help in getting down. WQOW-TV in Eau Claire (my old stomping grounds) has more details about how it was that Mason Barth ultimately ended up facing criminal trespass charges after he climbed up the 300-foot cell tower near Menomonie, Wisconsin (about an hour east of the Twin Cities) and got stuck parachuting down last week.

In fact, if you check out the TV-18 story here, you can actually hear Barth's 911 call to Dunn County authorities after he realizes he's stuck and needs their help to get down. The story says Barth 'realized he was in a bit of a predicament' as he was hanging about 50 feet up in the air.

Yeah, that's a bit of a predicament, alright. One that ultimately ended with him facing charges for 'criminal trespass to an energy provider property,' the story noted.
