Sure, we all may be dreaming of such a thing, but what are the chances Rochester will actually experience a white Christmas in 2017?

I don't know about you, but I like to have a little snow this time of year. It just makes it seem more like Christmas-- even though I've had holiday plans fall through over the years thanks to various snowstorms that made travel tough. (So maybe not having snow isn't so bad?)

Either way, though, historically speaking, we usually have a pretty good chance of having snow on the ground for Christmas here in the Med City. The Minnesota DNR says our probability usually stands at about 78 percent of having a white Christmas.

And, weather geeks define a 'white Christmas' as "having at least one inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day. The snow depth at most sites is measured once a day, usually in the morning," the site said.

But what about this year? So far, outside of a dusting of snow last week and a little bit of slush a few days ago, we've got bupkis. And, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast for Rochester, things are looking pretty quiet, at least for the next week or so.

Their seven-day forecast through next Wednesday, December 20th, shows no signs of a big snowfall at all (outside of a few flurries possible Friday night. So, unless things change late next week... a brown Christmas might be on the docket for southeast Minnesota this year!
