We are not even two and a half months into 2019 and already too many snowplows have been hit in Southeast Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported on their Twitter account that NINE snowplows have been struck since we have turned into 2019. Which, frankly, is nine too many. The latest crash came today on Highway 14 just east of Byron in the eastbound left lane. No injuries were reported, according to Mike Dougherty from MnDOT.

They also included in the tweet that 40 snowplows have been struck statewide.

Dougherty wants to remind people to slow down and pay attention.

"Motorists can do their part by slowing down, turning on their headlights and giving snowplows at least 10 car lengths. Never drive into the snowcloud. A snowplow is on the other side. A crash with a snowplow then takes it out of service as well puts everyone involved at risk of injury," Dougherty said.

Last week, a fatal crash took place near Wabasha involving a MnDOT Snowplow, and then on February 7th, a semi-truck rear-ended a MnDOT Snowplow on Hwy 52 near Oronoco.

Please slow down and give the snow plows plenty of room to do their job so we can all arrive at our desired destinations safely.
