US Bank To Now Close Additional Locations In Wisconsin
It's becoming increasingly common for banks to announce they are closing branches throughout the United States, including popular national banks.
American Banker noted recently that the closing of bank branches can be attributed to several factors, a major one being the continued popularity and convenience of online banking. After all, if you can do almost all forms of banking without stepping foot into an actual bank, how many branches are ultimately needed?
Another factor that can contribute to the banks closing branches in a community is cost-cutting as it can be expensive to operate when you factor in rent, utilities, and other expenses. This is an even easier decision if a branch is underperforming.
That being said, while it can make sense from a business standpoint to close a branch, it's still unfortunate because it means that people lose jobs, and it creates an inconvenience for the customers who still frequent the bank.
Recently, Minnesota-based U.S. Bank, which closed several locations in Wisconsin in 2024, announced that two additional branches would soon be closing in 2025.

Before any bank closes a branch location, it must give notice to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), as well as its customers. The OCC keeps a running list of these notices and shares them publicly in a weekly bulletin.

Already this year, US Bank has appeared in two different bulletins to file notice that two additional Wisconsin branches would be closing:
