There are a lot of things on my To Do list since I moved to Rochester 5 months ago. One place I’ve been meaning to check out is the Minnesota History Center, because I’ve heard good things about their exhibits. I also like feeling like I’m a classy, educated gentleman, but that’s beside the point.

Starting this weekend, the Minnesota History Center is debuting two new exhibits. And best part? Admission on Saturday is FREE thanks to the Smithsonian’s ‘Museum Day Live’ event. Here’s what’s starting up tomorrow:

“AMVETS Post #5: Photographs by Xavier Tavera”

September 23, 2017 through April 22, 2018

This exhibit looks at Mexican and Mexican-Americans who served during the Vietnam War and formed their own VFW post in St. Paul. You can view large portraits of the veterans and by the artist Xavier Tavera. This looks pretty cool if you’re a big history or war buff.

“Renewing What They Gave Us: Native American Artists In Residence”

September 23, 2017 through April 22, 2018

This exhibit has tons of original beadwork, birch bark, and other artwork from five American Indian artists Jessica Gokey, Pat Kruse, Denise Lajimodiere, Gwen Westerman, and Holly Young; plus the historical artifacts that provided inspiration.
