The 100 Deadliest Days on Minnesota Roads Begin this Weekend

Traditionally, the 100 deadliest days on Minnesota roads are between Memorial Day and Labor Day -- and unfortunately, 2019 was no exception.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety reports that 132 deaths occurred during that period last year, up from 123 or 7% over 2018.

The alcohol-related numbers are a case of good news/bad news. The good news? The number of alcohol-related deaths were down last summer -- from 44 in 2018, to 32 in 2019.

The Minnesota State Patrol adds:

Over the last five years, 640 people have died on Minnesota roads between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The bad news? Law enforcement racked up 7,773 DWI arrests during the period, up dramatically from 7,050 in 2018.

Don't forget the new hands-free law! 10 deaths during 'Minnesota's 100 Deadliest Days' in 2019 were attributed to distracted driving.
