Olmstead County Officials executed a search warrant on a home on 3rd Street NW on Monday and discovered over 13 pounds of methamphetamine. The owner of the home, 35-year-old Derek Thielen was the subject of an on-going investigation.

Captain Vince Scheckel is with the Olmstead County Sheriff's office. He says that a K-9 officer was brought in, and after approval from Thielen, the dog sniffed out drugs in the wall of Thielen’s garage. When authorities got the wall open, Scheckel said they found 13.29 pounds or 6,021 grams of methamphetamine. The meth has a street value of around $10,000/pound.

Thielen's record shows that he has been convicted of more than 20 crimes, including felony first-degree drug sales in 2008 in Olmsted County.And he is currently charged in Winona County of first-degree drug sales.

Thielen faces now two counts of first-degree controlled substance sales, one count of first-degree controlled substance possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Captain Scheckel said they also seized $2,666 in cash from the property.
