Rochester Woman Guilty of Careless Driving for Fatal Car-Bike Collision
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A traffic crash that claimed the life of a Rochester bicyclist last summer has resulted in a careless driving conviction against another Rochester woman.
25-year-old Fathi Geyre was found guilty of a misdemeanor careless driving charge after a trial before Olmsted County Judge Debra Jacobson Monday morning. She was sentenced to a year on probation and was fined $200.
Geyre was driving the pickup truck that struck and fatally injured 72-year-old Margaret Miland as she was crossing 19th street northwest on her bike around 6:15 a.m. on August 30th. Police say Geyre was turning west onto 19th street from northbound Valley High Drive near Lourdes High School.
A makeshift memorial to the crash victim continues to be maintained at the site.
