Rochester Students to Participate in ‘Walk and Bike to School Day’
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Wednesday is International Walk and Bike to School Day.
20 elementary schools in Olmsted County will celebrate the day by encouraging students to walk or ride their bikes to school, along with their parents and local celebrities. Walk to School Day was created to raise awareness for the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling, while also emphasizing the importance of physical activity and the pedestrian safety. Motorists are being advised to be extra vigilant for pedestrians and bicyclists in the morning as students and their parents leave behind their cars for the trek to school.
Many of the schools also have special activities on their playgrounds to mark the event and give students who need to ride the bus an opportunity to participate once they arrive at school.
The annual Walk and Bike to School Day is organized locally my Olmsted County Public Health through the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership.
