Rochester Man Guilty of Nearly Fatal Knife Attack
Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - A jury in Steele County has convicted a Rochester man of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault charges.
36-year-old Ron Jaeger was accused of repeatedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend during the attack at her residence in Owatonna on June 1, 2017. Court documents indicated the victim was stabbed 8 times and nearly died due to the loss of blood at organ damage.
Owatonna police investigators were able to speak to her before she was transported to St. Mary's hospital when she identified Jaeger as her attacker. He was arrested after a Dodge County Deputy stopped his vehicle as he was traveling back to Rochester and found a knife and blood inside the pickup truck.
His trial was delayed last year after a judge declared him incompetent to face prosecution in February. After undergoing treatment, Jaeger was reevaluated last summer and deemed competent to stand trial. He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 12th.
