Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Formal charges have been filed against the Rochester man who was arrested as the suspected driver of a car that caused a deadly traffic wreck in the city Friday night.

The Olmsted County Attorney’s office has filed three criminal vehicular homicide charges against  20-year-old Akili Scott.

Police say he was traveling at a high rate of speed around 10 p.m. when he ran a stop sign and collided with the other vehicle at the intersection of 13th St and 8th Ave SE, a few blocks west of Mayo High School. The driver of the other car, 23-year-old Kayla Cunningham, was dead when officers arrived. Police suspect Scott had been drinking.

Police Captain John Sherwin says the traffic investigator assigned to the case estimates Scott's car may have been traveling between 60 and 80 miles per hour at the time of the collision.
