Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An unruly Rochester man was arrested over the weekend for creating a scene at a grocery store and then assaulting a police officer who was called to the scene.

The incident happened around 3:00 PM Saturday at the Barlow Hy-Vee store.

Police say the man was upset about a phone card he had purchased earlier at the store that he said did not work. During a profane argument with an employee, police say 51-year-old Gabriel John removed a plexiglass shield from the counter and threw it onto the floor. He then reportedly tried to punch the manager and missed. John then pushed the manager in the chest twice and that’s when police were called.

Police say when John pushed one of the responding officers, he was placed under arrest. A large knife and hammer were found in his waistband.
