Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The unemployment rate in the Rochester area remained below 3 percent last month.

The latest jobs report from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows the jobless rate for Olmsted County in August matched the rate for July at 2.8 percent. The rate was well below the 6.2 percent unemployment rate reported for last August and was only 3-tenths of a percentage point above the rate from August 2019 before the start of the pandemic.

5 counties in southeastern Minnesota joined Olmsted County last month in reporting unemployment rates under 3 percent. Houston County had the lowest rate in the region at 2.5 percent, while Freeborn County's 3.6 percent jobless rate was the highest.
