Mabel-Canton Uses Ground Game To Secure 28-14 Win Over Kingsland
The Mabel-Canton Cougars used a strong ground game en route to a 28-14 win on the road over Kingsland in Spring Valley Friday night. We had the broadcast on FUN 104.
Mabel-Canton took a 22-6 lead into the half. Kingsland forced a 3-and-out, and then Kaden Rath returned the ensuing punt 70 yards for a touchdown to make it 22-14. The Cougars then dominated the time of possession in the second half, utilizing a strong run game to run out the clock, and eventually score in the 4th quarter to make it a 28-14 game.
The Knights had a drive at the end but were unable to find the endzone, despite moving the ball down the field very well. Quarterback Kale Mensink threw some great passes and showed off his arm strength throughout the game. He connected on a touchdown pass to James Howard in the first half to make it 14-6 late in the second quarter.
Kaden Rath was fantastic for Kingsland, too. He had an interception, along with the punt return touchdown. Rath also ran the ball well for the Knights who have a very creative offense with a lot of motion before the snap, and a lot of different formations.
The Cougars were led on the ground by Tyler Larson who finished with 101 yards and a touchdown. Cayden Tollefsrud added 92 yards and two scores. Jordan Larson through for a touchdown as well that was caught by Alex Arenson.
Howard led the Knights with 48 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown on a pass from Mensink.
