Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn gave KDHL an update on the medical condition of a 46 year old Owatonna man who nearly drowned in Cannon Lake.  Edelgard Mejia is in stable condition after the accident at Shager Park Beach in Warsaw Township.

Meijia was swimming at the beach when he started showing signs of distress and disappeared under water.  Mejia's family members went in and some bystanders, quickly located him in about 5 feet of water and pulled him to shore.  They then began CPR.

Rice County Sheriff's Deputies were called about 1:36 Saturday afternoon on the report of a possible drowning.  They were told Mejia was swimming at the beach when he started showing signs of distress and disappeared under water.

First responders took over and provided care to Mejia who was unresponsive at the time.  He was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Sheriff Dunn told KDHL this morning Mejia is in stable condition and responsive so some lifesaving awards might be given.

Rice County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Faribault Police, Minnesota State Parol, Faribault Fire Department, North Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.
