Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Opening statements are scheduled Monday in a Rochester murder trial.

A jury was seated Friday in the 28-year-old Malcolm Woods case. He is charged with first and second-degree murder in the 2018 shooting death of 28-year-old Brandon Arndt.

Woods is the first of three defendants to stand trial in the case. Prosecutors contend Woods, along with 21-year-old Darian Klindworth-Woods, and 35-year-old Keilah Parson, mistakenly believed Arndt had something to do with a severe medical emergency experienced by their grandmother the day before the shooting.

Woods is acting as his own defense attorney. The case is also unusual in that Woods is being restrained during the proceeding by an electronic ankle bracelet that can be used to deliver a shock in the event of a violent outburst.
