Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man accused of stealing a car and leading authorities on a chase.

Sheriff’s Captain Scott Behrns says the pursuit began late Sunday morning after officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the new warming center across the street from the Government Center in downtown Rochester. Witnesses reported seeing a man break out a window in the car and assault a woman inside the vehicle.

Olmsted County deputies caught up with the car on westbound I-90 and the driver initially refused to stop but eventually pulled over. Captain Behrns says as the deputies approached the car, the man yelled, “just shoot me” and then drove away.

Behrns says the deputies chose not to continue the pursuit because they knew the man’s identity.
