Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News) - Two Olmsted County deputies are being credited with preventing a suicidal man from jumping off a bridge.

A woman called 911 around 2:45 PM Tuesday to report the 35-year-old man was despondent and drove off in his car.

The deputies spotted the car stopped on the County Rd 12 bridge at Lake Zumbro. They found the man standing between the car and the bridge rail. When the deputies approached, the man climbed over the rail and stood on a ledge. Capt. Scott Behrns says the deputies backed off but continued talking to him.

The woman who had called 911 arrived and also began talking to the man and he eventually climbed back onto the bridge and was taken to St. Marys Hospital for an evaluation.

Behrns says the road was closed to traffic during the incident, which ended around 4:30 PM.
