Mower County Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Baby
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Mower County man accused of causing horrific injuries to a 2-month old baby has pleaded guilty.
The baby ended up in the pediatric intensive care unit at St Marys Hospital in August 2018. A felony assault charge was filed a few days later against 24-year-old Nathaniel Ambrose of Lyle.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, Ambrose was watching his girlfriend’s infant son while she was at work. She returned home and saw blood coming from his mouth.
Doctors found the baby had suffered multiple injuries, including “facial bruising, bruising on his scrotum, rectal tearing and a possible brain bleed.” The child’s mother said her baby appeared to be fine when she went to work that morning.
Ambrose initially denied injuring the child and gave various explanations about what may have happened.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in January. Under his plea agreement, he is expected to receive an 86-month prison sentence.
