The Mall of America in Bloomington is pushing back again against early opening hours on Black Friday this year.

According to TwinCities.com and in a release Thursday, MOA, located about an hour and 15 minutes north of Rochester, said it would again be closed on Thanksgiving this year, which is November 23rd.

Now, that's not the big news, mind you. MOA was closed on Thanksgiving already last year. But this year, the Mall is going a step further and is offering holiday pay to its employees for working on Black Friday. That will affect about 1,200 people.

It's all part of the attempt to combat early openings that encroach on Thanksgiving as some retailers try to cash in and capture those early Black Friday shoppers.

Now, it's important to note that while the MOA itself will be closed, some of the anchor stores are still free to set their own hours. And yes, some include opening even earlier this year.

For instance, while not located at MOA, Kohl's stores said they're opening an hour earlier for Black Friday-- at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

(And while I totally get that many of us have to work ON Thanksgiving Day-- like nurses, doctors, police, fire, EMS, etc-- do department stores REALLY have to open THAT early for Black Friday?!? Isn't opening Friday at 5 a.m. early enough?!?)
