Minnesota State Patrol Reports Over 700 Crashes and Spinouts Tuesday
The ice and snow created lots of accident opportunities Tuesday and Wednesday (December 28 and 29, 2021), and Minnesota drivers sure took advantage of those opportunities. Almost 750 altogether!
On Twitter, the Minnesota State Patrol said Tuesday from 11 AM to 6 PM, they responded to 247 crashes and 205 vehicles that ran off the road. Plus three jackknifed semis.
Now that's just the 11 AM to 6 PM Tuesday numbers.
At 6 PM they started a new tally, and it was 90 crashes, with one fatality, plus 75 vehicles that ran off the road. Then there were 130 more crashes between 10 PM Tuesday and 10 AM Wednesday.
How Many Is That Altogether?
If my math is correct, that's 747 reports of snow-related accidents, cars going off the road, several non-life-threatening injuries, and one person dying in a crash (near Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota). All in just two days.
Did The Storm/Temperature Break Any Records?
According to Kim David, KROC News Director's story,
- The National Weather Service says the temperature at the Rochester International Airport fell below zero early Wednesday for the first time since Feb. 20th.
- The NWS says the 311 days between the two dates is the 8th longest based on current records. The longest streak is 343 days, set in 2012.
- This was also the 9th latest date the city has recorded a subzero temperature. The unofficial low temperature at RST Wednesday was -9 around 7:30 am. | Read More: Rochester Weather Streak Ends After Making Top Ten
