Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man armed with a tire iron robbed a Rochester motel early Monday.

Police Capt. John Sherwin says the man was wearing a mask when he entered the Staybridge Suites near the Costco store just after 1:00 a.m.

He told the clerk to open the safe but the employee told him he did not have the code. Sherwin says the employee was told to call his manager.  He did but the manager would not give it to him. The robber then took money from a cash drawer and fled on foot.

Some guests were near the front desk and Sherwin says the clerk told them to go to their rooms so they never realized what was happening.

Sherwin says the robber was in the motel about 10-15 minutes.
