Man Sentenced For Sex Crime Involving Olmsted CTY Jail Detainee
Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Minnesota Department of Corrections employee was sentenced today for engaging in sexual activity with a woman while he was transporting her from the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center to the Hennepin County Jail.
55-year-old Randy Beehler previously pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in Dakota County. The plea deal reached in March led to the dismissal of a third-degree charge.
Beehler, who is from Foley, has been ordered to jail for 120 days and has been placed on probation for 7 years. The sentencing order allows him to serve the jail sentence near his home in Benton County and apply for work-release privileges.
According to the criminal complaint, Beehler was driving the woman to the Minneapolis jail on September 30, 2019, when she offered that she would "do anything" for some food after he told her of his plans to stop at the McDonald's drive-thru in Cannon Falls.
The woman told investigators that Beehler then parked the transport van at an abandoned business and brought her to the front seat after removing her handcuffs. The two then engaged in sex acts while Beehler drove to the Twin Cities on Highway 52.
Court records say Beehler initially denied the woman's allegations but later admitted to the sexual conduct in violation of a state law prohibiting any sexual contact between correctional officers and detainees.
